In Hindi, there are three degrees of adjective: (a) positive, (b) comparative, and (c) superlative. For comparative X से se is used, where X is a noun with whom/which comparison is being done. For superlative degree, सबसे sabse is used.

For examples:

Use of कुछ/ज़रा “a little” and ज़्यादा/काफ़ी “a lot”

In comparative sentences, कुछ/ज़रा and ज़्यादा/काफ़ी are used to further emphasize the meaning.

For example:

• यह किताब उस किताब से कुछ/ज़रा मोटी है | This book is a little thicker than that book
• यह कमरा उस कमरे से कुछ/ज़रा बड़ा है | This room is a little bigger than that room.
• यह किताब उस किताब से ज़्यादा/काफ़ी मोटी है | This book is a lot thicker than that book.
• यह कमरा उस कमरे से ज़्यादा/काफ़ी बड़ा है | This room is a lot bigger than that room.
